Albertsons has become the first national grocery partner for Grubhub, leveraging the restaurant delivery platform to enter the grocery delivery market. This partnership complements Albertsons’ existing e-commerce collaborations with Instacart and DoorDash, with Instacart partnering since 2017 and DoorDash since 2021. Through the Grubhub arrangement, customers can now order groceries from nearly 1,800 of Albertsons’ 2,200 supermarkets via the Grubhub website and app.

Grubhub aims to fulfill most orders within an hour, though delivery speed will vary based on the order size and customer location. Members of Grubhub’s Grubhub+ program will enjoy waived delivery fees on eligible Albertsons orders. This partnership follows Grubhub’s April agreement to provide delivery service to nearly 1,000 independent grocery retailers via the Mercato platform.

As Grubhub expands its grocery delivery offerings, it faces increased competition in the restaurant delivery sector from Instacart, which recently announced a partnership with Uber to offer restaurant meal deliveries through its app.
